Mission Statement

The Natrona County Geographic Information Systems Department is dedicated to providing quality spatial information products, helping avoid duplication in the business workflow, and making available a GIS resource for the decision makers, citizens, and departments of Natrona County.

What is GIS?

Geographic Information Systems is a technology in which Spatial data in the form of points, lines, and shapes are linked to database attributes providing information about a geographical area. GIS can be described as a digital map containing several layers of data, each layer containing specific informational elements within a map. Land parcels, buildings and street centerlines are examples of map layers. An example of how GIS is used to select features based on location is identifying all addresses within 500 feet of a school.
